Your e-Residency digital ID is valid for five years. You can check its expiry date on the card or verify your certificates using the ID software.
Renewing your e-Residency digital ID is streamlined compared to first-time application.
Before your e-Residency digital ID expires
To keep using the e-services and digital signatures without interruption:
- 3 months before your card expires, the Estonian Police and Border Guard Board (PBGB) will send you a reminder email to the address you used in your first e-Residency application.
- Apply for a new digital ID at least 2-3 months before your current one expires. Consider your travel plans to collect the document into the timeframe as well.
Note
If you also use Smart-ID, keep in mind that its validity depends on the validity of your e-Residency card. When your e-Residency digital ID expires, Smart-ID will also stop working.
- This is because, under the agreement between Estonia and the Smart-ID provider SK ID Solutions AS, a valid digital ID is required to maintain a Smart-ID account.
Before you renew
Please make sure, that your Estonian company has met all the obligations:
- annual reports have been submitted,
- corporate taxes have been declared (if your company is a tax resident in Estonia),
- company data in the Business Register is up to date, and
- the company does not have any tax debts.
The PBGB may reject your application if your company has not met its obligations.
